The Illawarra Basketball Association invite everyone to come down to Illawarra Sports Stadium Berkeley to see some of the Illawarra's best basketballers go around in Round 12 of the NSW State League. All 3 representative teams are at home in matches which promise to be exciting.
The action kicks off at 12:00pm when our Youth League Men take on the top-of-the-table Central Coast Crusaders. The young Seahawks are looking for their fourth win of the season while the Crusaders have only lost once in 11 starts this year. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Sutherland Sharks, the Seahawks will be keen for a win, however the Crusaders will be no easy beats. Central Coast had their unbeaten tag stripped off them by the Penrith Panthers in Round 9, but bounced back with convincing wins over the Norths Bears and Hills Hornets in the past two weeks. With league leading scorer Sean Mullen (25.2ppg) leading the way, the Seahawks will need every ounce of Home Court Advantage to get over the visitors on Saturday.
The second match of the afternoon will be at 2:00pm when the Youth League Women match up with the Newcastle Hunters in a clash that will be key to both sides' Finals hopes. The young Kittyhawks hold a 6 win, 5 loss record and are placed 8th in the 13-team league, while Newcastle hold a 5 win, 2 loss record which is good enough for 5th place. Whilst both teams won last weekend, a win to our Kittyhawks will push them closer to the Top 6. A loss will make the road to the Final 6 a lot harder.
Last on the triple-header card is the 4:00pm State League Men game, which sees our Illawarra Seahawks take on the league-leading and undefeated Hawkesbury Jets. The match-up is 1st vs. 2nd and the Seahawks will be keen to avenge their Round 6 defeat when the Jets travelled to Berkeley and came away with a 76-66 victory. Both sides got wins in Round 11 - Illawarra wiping the floor with the lowly Glebe Magic (84-61), while the Jets were challenged by the Springwood Scorchers before coming away with a 78-70 road win. Look for both sides to work hard for the full 40 minutes this Saturday afternoon.
All games are at the Illawarra Sports Stadium in Berkeley. Admission is free and we look forward to a great crowd - get to the game and support your teams!
