VALE TRISH BRETTELL

Trish Brettell

Trish has had long involvement with Illawarra Basketball.  Trish worked at the Snakepit for 17 years alongside Husband Peter (Life Member) and President of the IBA from 1985-1990 also a Life member of the Hawks.

Trish was also been involved  as team manager with sons Christopher and Jay with Representative Junior teams for many years

The Brettell family name is one of the cornerstones in  Basketball NSW history.

Trish will be sadly missed by many always happy to help out when ever and however she could with a smile on her face.

VALE WARWICK STUTCHBURY

Sadly, the IBA has lost one of its beloved life members; Warwick Ross STUTCHBURY.

Warwick has had long involvement in the building, development, and growth of the Association dating back to the origins. Warwick was the Chairman of the Building committee of the original stadium and member of the building committee of the stadium extension in 1983. Company Treasurer in 1958, President 1961 and 1962. He has also successfully served as Trustee of the Association. Warwick was the founding member of the ‘Wizards’ basketball team which still competes in the domestic competition. Warwick was awarded a well-deserved life membership of the Illawarra Basketball Association for his amazing contributions to the Association over a long period of time. Warwick will be sadly missed by many.

Warwick Ross STUTCHBURY, passed away on October 8, 2017. Beloved husband of Jeanette. Loving father and father in law of Kim and Les, Glen and Tamantha. Much loved Pop of Laura, Samuel, Cate, Alexa. Loved brother of Graham, Merrill (both dec).

Aged 83 Years

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Warwick’s funeral service to be held in the chapel, Parsons Funeral Home, 4 Princes Highway Dapto on Friday October 13, 2017 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the

Leukaemia Foundation would be appreciated.

PREP FOR REP 2018

The purpose of the Prep For Rep Program is to offer domestic players an opportunity to train and learn some skills leading into the 2018 Representative Trials. These sessions will be coached by Hawks Junior Representative Coaches.

2017 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to all Illawarra teams to that competed in last weekends NSW Junior State Championships ranking top 8 in NSW.

Under 18 Men were crowned State Champions defeating Norths Bears 81-70 in the Grand Final, with Lachlan Dent named as the Grand Final MVP.

Under 14 boys advanced from the pool stage to reach the semi-finals to be defeated by Norths Bears 45-38.

NSW Country basketball is invites athletes to trial for;

2018 Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup 14th – 20th January at Albury

2018 NSW Country Developement Tour 7th – 10th January at Newcastle

 

TRIAL INFORMATION

WHEN: 6pm FRIDAY 15th SEPTEMBER TO 12pm SUNDAY 17th SEPTEMBER

WHERE: MINTO (WOMEN) & MAITLAND (MEN)

WHO: U/14 (2005), U/16 (2004 & 2003), U/18 (2002 & 2001)

COST: $140 per player, includes accommodation at the venue and all meals.

MEDIA RELEASE

 “Basketball Illawarra Boosts Focus on Growth and Participation”

 Both Basketball NSW and Basketball Illawarra have a renewed focus of growth and participation and to help achieved their goals Basketball Illawarra have proudly announced the appointment of Jaydon Beveridge as their new Basketball Development Officer.

 Jaydon’s primary functions will include the development and execution of Basketball training programs and camps. Jaydon will also be responsible for delivering programs, either developed in house, or in conjunction with Basketball Australia and Basketball NSW, to schools in the Illawarra with the ultimate aim being to increase participation in Basketball and support Basketball’s growth in the Illawarra.

 Jaydon has a strong history in Basketball, both as a player and a coach. He has served the Association as Court Supervisor, Development Coach and is also Head Coach of the Hawks – Southern Junior League U/14-2 Men’s Team this year.

 As a player, Jaydon has a strong resume at representative level. Since Under 12 level, Jaydon has consistently played for his State/Territory, most recently representing Western Australia in the U/20 National Championships. He is also a qualified referee, was a member of the National Intensive Training Program (NITP), selected to represent WA at the Friendship Games in China (2014), was selected for the Nike All- Asia Basketball Camp (2016) and was also in 2016, selected to attend the Australian Prospects Basketball Camp Centre of Excellence.

 Basketball Illawarra Human Resources Director Cameron Paxton stated “We are really looking forward to Jaydon joining our senior representative program when he recovers from injury in 2018”.

 “We feel extremely fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Jaydon joining our team and we know he will make an outstanding contribution to our Association and indeed Basketball in general”.
