The Under 12 Boys Div 2 started their SJL season off with 3/3 wins. For many of the boys, it was their first taste of representative basketball.
Our first game was against Moss Vale Magic, a great match-up to kickstart the weekend. The game saw a slow start from both teams before Moss Vale jumped out to a double-digit lead at halftime.
The Hawks boys fought back during the third quarter before running away with the game in the final term, 65-51. Flynn Hutchinson led the scoring for the game and finished with 20 points to lead the scorers.
Game 2 pitted us against the Albury Bandits, a team who had their 14-point win in the first game. It was a tough game that saw a few of the Hawks starters in early foul trouble. The Hawks hit the lead early in 1st quarter and despite the foul trouble they never looked back. Albury battled hard, but the Hawks pushed away for a 16-point win. It was a great team performance with every player contributing to the team score. Mitch Taylor lead the scoring with 18 points, while Felix Nockels had 14.
The final game on Sunday morning saw us take on Wagga Wagga Wolves. it was another tightly contested game with the Wolves holding a 9-point lead with 3 minutes left in the game. Some great team defence. Some amazing defence highlighted by a Mitch Taylor charge led to Max Fares being fouled with 4.4 seconds left and the scores tied at 45-45. As cool as a cucumber, Max walked to the line and knocked down both freebies giving the team a 47-45 lead. After the timeout, some more great defence and a steal before Felix was fouled just before the buzzer giving us a 49-45 win.
